NYC & the Sinus Infection: The Search for the Best Primary Care Doctor

NYC is the home of all. From an entire store filled with M&Ms, and only M&Ms, to the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the nation—what a dichotomy! Yet this is why we love our city so much. Anything we want (except for that winning Lotto ticket, gosh darn it)…and many things we don’t want are here to be had…if only, if only…Take healthcare, it seems we have a doctor on every corner. General medical care is easy to get in NYC, but finding a doctor we respect and who seems to respect us, well, that’s a tad more difficult.

Thankfully, it’s not impossible, however. There are awesome medical clinics to visit that employ—or are run by—an awesome doctor. They are elusive, like a shooting star on your average October night, yet just as accessible. As stated, NYC is home to everything under the sun, the fact that we haven’t found the right primary care doctor NYC yet should not dissuade us from searching.

Look, some of us have medical insurance with their jobs, others—growing day by day, it would unfortunately seem—do not have this luxury. This group (us) tends to head to a hospital emergency room when we get sick. This is the last place we want to be, face it. A hospital emergency room is the last place to get a primary care doctor to impart any sort of (what they used to call) bedside manner. Look, it’s all in the name if the facility: emergency room. NYC may be the greatest city in the world—and their hospital emergency rooms may be the greatest if you happen to have an emergency—but when you have the flu or a sinus infection it’s no place to be.

The average dweller of NYC can suffer from a sinus infection once or twice a year. It’s no way to go through the day, head all stuffed, mucous dripping, voice raspy and head aching. Finding an internist NYC to treat this medical malady would be a relief, for sure. Your average sinus infection is a symptom of a common cold. Other times, they arise due to allergies. Either way it’s tough going.

A sinus infection is known in medical circles as sinusitis. It is the inflammation of the sinuses that usually occurs during a cold, other viral infections, and/or an allergic reaction. We’ve all went through them (chances are many of them) and they are always uncomfortable. The symptoms for a sinus infection are such:

·       Thick green or yellow mucus discharge
·       A pain or discomfort in the head, face or teeth
·       Highly stuffy nose or clogged-head
·       Coughing
·       Loss of smell
·       Lethargy or all over tired feeling
·       Pressure in the ears
·       Fever
·       Headache

If you are suffering from a sinus infection for longer than your cold lasts, it is time to visit a professional primary care doctor. Sometimes it’s hard to stop and see what’s going on—even in our own bodies. After all, we live in the fastest paced city in the world, NYC, and even our health can slip away if we are not careful and diligent.
